Liz Truss said the UK needs a 'British Trump'

Liz Truss said the UK needed a British version of Donald Trump.

The former prime minister said she wanted to see someone lead a campaign like the Make America Great Again movement led by the president-elect.

However, she didn't say who she had in mind – although she had previously praised another Trump supporter. Nigel Farage and insisting that he should be allowed to join the Conservative Party.

Speaking at a summit in Delhi, Truss said: What interests me is how can we create this movement, much like the MAGA movement or the Tea Party movement in the United States that led to the big changes that we observe.

Frankly, I think we need a British Trump. The question is who could this person be?

The former prime minister, who was forced to resign after just 49 days in office following her disastrous mini-budget, appeared to rule herself out for the role.

She said: I've put my fingers in the fire before and burned them badly, but this is the type of approach we need now to achieve change in Britain.

Truss said the British people wanted the same type of revolution that Trump is leading in America.

The Trump revolution we are witnessing in the United States is coming to Europe, she said.
