Nunavut Territory reports four new COVID-19 cases as the government provided up-to-date information on the status of coronavirus.
Four new cases were reported in Arviat on Friday morning, shortly before Nunavut Territory officials released updates on COVID-19 response efforts.
No new cases have been reported on Thursday.
Currently, there are 151 active cases, all in the Kivalliq region. So far, a total of 159 viruses have been confirmed. 8 people have recovered.
In a Thursday update from the Nunavut Territory Health Department, Mr Patterson said it was safe for those identified as having recovered to escape quarantine and “restart operations in accordance with current public health restrictions.”
As of Friday, the government is tracking 765 people for symptoms or contact with COVID-19.
There is still no evidence of community infection at Rankin Inlet or Whale Cove, the territory says.
Increasing cases were last reported on Wednesday, with 8 cases in Arviat and 3 cases in Whale Cove.
Yesterday, the public health emergency was extended until December 10. The entire area blockade is valid until Wednesday, December 2nd.
At a press conference, Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Michel Patterson said resumption measures would be based on the status of incidents within the territory, the status of incidents in southern jurisdictions, and the testing capacity of the Nunavut Territory. ..
