Coronavirus Houston: Mayor Sylvester Turner urges Houston citizens to cancel holiday gatherings during a pandemic
At a briefing on Monday, Turner said the Houston Department of Health reported 777 COVID-19s, bringing Houston’s total to 111,211. In addition to the new cases, Turner reported three more deaths from the virus, bringing the city’s total deaths to 1,530.
As the COVID-19 vaccine continues to roll, both the Houston Health Department and the Houston Fire Department will be vaccinated with 3,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine this week.
“We are ready to receive that inventory. We have the tools and equipment to properly store the equipment and have plans to administer those vaccines to those employees.” Said Samuel Pena, Chief of the Houston Fire Department.

This decision comes from the surge in new coronavirus cases and hospitalizations to the highest levels since summer. As of Sunday, more than 9,800 coronavirus patients were hospitalized in Texas, the highest number since the deadly summer outbreak.
