Daniel Dale has dismissed the Antifa claims of GOP lawmakers
When Trump supporters stormed the Capitol on Wednesday, several of the president’s Republican allies are trying to blame the alleged left-wing activists, in fact, the Antifari. Representatives Mo Brooks, Paul Gosar and Matt Gaetz have encouraged the far-left Antifa group to rally with supporters of Trump to provoke the crowd. “Fascist ANTIFA orchestrated the growing attack on the Capitol with clear evidence of crowd control tactics,” tweeted Alabama Republican Republican. “This has all the hallmarks of the Antifa provocation,” Arizona Republican Gosar wrote. Gaetz was more specific when he mentioned an article in the Washington Times on the floor of the House — and to the loud boos of his Democratic colleagues — that has since been removed from their website. In the article, a XRVision face recognition company says that “Trump protesters who stormed the Antifa Capitol infiltrated.” The Florida congressman said he did not know “whether the reports were true,” but continued to cite the Washington Times article, saying he had “credible evidence” that Antifa had infiltrated the ranks of pro-Trump insurgents. “Some of the people who violated the Capitol today were not in favor of Trump,” Gaetz said. “Trump supporters were in disguise and, in fact, they were members of a violent terrorist group antifa.” Data first: this is also not true. The Washington Times has told two news outlets that the story is false. The Federal Bureau of Investigation said there was no indication that Antifa had entered the crowd since Friday. Moreover, far-right extremists have been found in the crowd that attacked the Capitol and since CNN published this article it has not seen any evidence of left-wing infiltration of the crowd. #DanielDale #CNN #New.
