Earthquake: 3.3, 4.0 on the Richter scale earthquake strikes near Lennox, and shakes the Los Angeles area

LINUX, CA (CABC) – An initial magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck near Lenox on Monday morning, about 30 minutes after a 3.3-magnitude earthquake struck the area, shook parts of Southern California.

The first earthquake was recorded at around 4:15 AM about 1 km east-northeast of Lennox

A follower of 2.5 magnitude was recorded minutes later less than one mile northwest of Lennox.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the magnitude 4.0 earthquake had its epicenter about a mile east-northeast of Lennox at a depth of roughly 20 miles, jolting the area about 30 minutes later. Seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones told Eyewitness News that the 4.0 earthquake had a magnitude of 3.0.

More than 20 smaller earthquakes have been reported, including an earthquake of magnitude 2.4 on the Richter scale that had its epicenter near Englewood, having a magnitude of 4.0.

Reports that people felt the bigger earthquake soon flocked to the ABC7 newsroom, with people as far away as Palmdale and Laguna Nigel saying the quake shook their area. The US Geological Survey said the magnitude 3.3 earthquake was felt by residents from the Southern Bay to the Montebello region and Burbank region.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
