Utah’s months-long trend of declining COVID-19 cases has barely continued.
Newly identified cases of COVID-19 have been on the rise across the United States over the past few weeks, and the downtrend in Utah over the months appears to have slowed.
Utah reported 2,763 new cases of coronavirus during the week ending Sunday.
Still, the state’s litigation rate is highly valued compared to other states.
Utah is ranked 38th among the fastest per capita spreads of the coronavirus, according to a USA TODAY network analysis of Johns Hopkins University data.
Last week, the United States added 490,277 reported cases of coronavirus. This is an increase of 10.3% from the previous week. Nationwide, 35 states had more cases in the most recent week than in the previous week.
Many states did not report the Easter incident. This makes interstate comparisons inaccurate, and weekly comparisons within states also inaccurate.
Within Utah, the worst weekly outbreaks per capita occurred in the Summit, Wasatch, and Davis counties. Overall, the newest case was added in Salt Lake County, with 957 cases. Utah County, 450 cases. Davis County was 382. Weekly cases increased in four counties from the previous week. The worst increase from last week’s pace was in the Davis, Touril and San Juan counties.

When it comes to vaccination, the state lags behind most of the country.
Utah ranks 40th in the state, with at least one vaccination, and 31.8% of its population has been vaccinated at least partially. The national percentage is 35.9%, as shown by USA TODAY analysis of CDC data.
In the week ending Sunday, Utah reported receiving an additional 196,112 vaccine doses compared to 190,472 in the previous week. Overall, Utah reported 1,662,712 doses.
Throughout Utah, cases decreased in three counties, with the highest in Utah, Summit, and Salt Lake counties.
In Utah, 27 people were reported dead from COVID-19 during the week ending Sunday. The week before that, 18 people were reported dead.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 390,104 people have been coronavirus-positive and 2,159 have died of the disease in Utah, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. In the United States, 31,197,873 people are positive and 562,066 are dead.
Note: In Utah, Johns Hopkins University reports data primarily by health sector, such as a joint Weber and Morgan agency. Weber and Morgan counties may be marked as having no cases. Utah county-level data is significantly worse than any other state, and county comparisons can be very misleading.
