Enterprises worried because Manitoba is the penultimate state to announce a reopening plan
Winnipeg-The lack of a reopening plan from the Manitoba government has begun to worry some companies.
States across the country, even those trying to contain the third wave, have established plans to reopen COVID-19.
The plan outlines how restrictions will be relaxed in the coming months and provides a rough schedule of when different sectors can reopen.
Manitoba is one of two states that have not announced plans.
Business owners like Paul Taylor, owner of Brickhouse Gym, are worried about not knowing when to resume.
“We have staff, and there are people who say that this is their livelihood and this is their life,” Taylor said. “So how do they plan their lives because they don’t know when they’ll be back to work? Don’t worry about myself.”
Alberta’s three-stage Open For Summer program eases restrictions two weeks after 50% of Alberta ages 12 and older receive at least one vaccination, reducing hospitalizations to less than 800.
The Saskatchewan three-stage reopening roadmap will ease restrictions three weeks after 70% of people over the age of 40 receive their first vaccination and three weeks after vaccination eligibility is open to all adults.
“The reopening plan certainly gives us some benchmarks and hopes for the future, and-will illuminate the way we’re heading,” Taylor said. ..
Jonathan Alward, director of the Prairie region of the Canadian Independent Business Federation, said the organization is urging the state to develop its own reopening plans.
“Manitoba’s approach does not have to depend on the number of vaccinated Manitoba, it does not have to indicate that it will resume tomorrow, or it should not signal,” Arwad said. “But that is the motivation for people to start following better rules and get vaccinated as soon as possible.”
Alward said the state needs to shift its focus from aiming for the strongest limits in Canada to the most effective limits for businesses and residents.

As for Taylor, he wants a little more transparency from the state.
“It’s fair enough that they don’t have a complete plan, but let’s see where you are,” he said.
