The recently completed expansion of the Trans Mountain pipeline will raise Canadian oil prices for “years” to come, an executive with oilsands producer MEG Energy Corp. said Tuesday. Canadian heavy oil has historically sold at a lower price than lighter U.S. crude, partly because of differences in product quality and transportation costs, but also because of a lack of export capacity by pipeline that limited market access for Canadian oil. MEG is a major beneficiary of the Trans Mountain expansion, with contracted capacity of 20,000 barrels per day on the pipeline. MEG Energy Corp. said it earned $98 million in the first quarter, compared to $81 million in the same quarter last year.

Crescent Point Energy Corp. announced it had signed a $600 million deal to sell some of its Saskatchewan oil properties to Saturn Oil & Gas. The company said the deal included its Flat Lake and Battrum properties. Production from the assets is expected to reach 13,500 barrels of oil equivalent per day over the next 12 months. As a result of this agreement, Crescent Point is revising its average annual production forecast for 2024 to a range of 191,000 to 199,000 boe/d, a reduction of 7,000 boe/d from the midpoint of its forecast range former.
