UAW and Ford confirm the death of 2 workers after a diagnosis of coronavirus

Two hourly Ford employees died from COVID-19, UAW and company officials confirmed on Saturday evening.

One worker was based at Dearborn Stamping while the other was a skilled trades worker at the Ford Data Center in Dearborn, said UAW spokesperson Brian Rothenberg.

Ford spokeswoman Kelli Felker said in a statement: “We are saddened to announce that two members of the Ford team who worked at Dearborn have died after contracting COVID-19.”

“It is a tragic reminder that the coronavirus crisis is everywhere and requires everyone’s attention. Our thoughts are with their families, friends and colleagues during this difficult time. Nothing is more important than the health and safety of our people. employees, dealers, customers and communities, “she said. “We will continue to follow the advice of global health experts to do everything we can to keep our people healthy.”

Rory Gamble, president of the UAW, sent a letter to the brothers and sisters of the union “that two other of our members have fallen under the virus”.

The UAW confirmed on March 24 that two workers employed by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles had died, one from the assembly plant in Sterling Heights and the other from the transmission plant in Kokomo, Indiana.
