Ram Charan to Pooja Hegde: South Indian stars who failed to shine in Bollywood

Kajal Aggarwal, a leading actress of South Indian cinema, has established herself as a powerhouse performer. Throughout her career, she has received numerous accolades, thereby cementing her place in Tollywood (the Telugu film industry). While she ventured into Bollywood with aspirations of greater recognition, films like Rohit Shetty's 'Singham' (2011) failed to replicate the phenomenal success she enjoyed in the south.

In 'Singham', Kajal played Kavya Bhosle, the female lead opposite Ajay Devgn. The film itself was a huge commercial success in Bollywood, making Ajay Devgn's character Singham an iconic action hero. However, Kajal's role, although central to the story, was limited compared to her typical roles in Telugu films.

Here she played the love interest and damsel in distress, a type of character not as important or complex as the roles she often played in Tollywood. This, coupled with the fact that Bollywood tends to be more hero-centric in action films, could have limited the impact of his performance domestically.

Although 'Singham' was not her big hit in Bollywood, Kajal went on to act in a few other Hindi films. However, none of them achieved the same level of success as his Telugu projects.
