Universal Studios tram crash injures 15 in Los Angeles, Calif., authorities say

ANGELS — Fifteen people were injured in a streetcar crash Saturday evening at Universal Studios in Southern California, authorities said.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said the agency received a report shortly after 9 p.m. of a streetcar collision.

Fifteen people were injured in the incident, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. All suffered injuries described as minor, including one person who firefighters initially said was seriously injured.

“There was a tram incident at the theme park this evening that resulted in several minor injuries, confirmed by the Los Angeles County Fire Department,” a Universal Studios spokesperson said in a statement. “We are working to support our guests and understand the circumstances that led to the accident.”

The cause of the accident was not immediately known.

According to a Los Angeles Times reportinvestigators said the last car of the streetcar hit a rail near a parking lot due to a brake problem.

Footage showed ambulances and law enforcement rushing to the scene.

The California Highway Patrol is the lead agency in the investigation.
