The power-sharing deal between the SNP and Holyrood Greens is under threat after the Scottish Government abandoned key climate change targets.

The Scottish Greens said a vote on the deal at the upcoming extraordinary general meeting (EGM) would be binding.

The general meeting and crunch voting dates have not yet been announced.

There is discontent among Greens after the SNP announced the Scottish Government was backtracking on its commitment to reduce emissions by 75% by 2030.

The party's LGBT group, Rainbow Greens, also criticized an announcement on the same day that Glasgow's gender identity service would stop prescribing puberty blockers to new patients under the age of 18.

The decision follows a landmark review of gender services for under-18s in England and Wales.

Scottish Greens co-leader Patrick Harvey said the party would urge members to support a power-sharing deal to ensure “green values ​​are put into practice” in government.

Writing for X, he said “many” members had called for an EGM to discuss the future of the contract.

But Mr Harvie said: “As part of the Scottish Government, we are making change on a much larger scale than ever before.”
