Doctor Who and Game of Thrones actor Ian Gelder dies aged 74

“It is with immense sadness and a heavy heart broken into a thousand pieces that I leave this position to announce the passing of my beloved husband and life partner, Ian Gelder,” he wrote.

The 74-year-old was diagnosed with bile duct cancer in December.

“I had stopped all work to care for him, but neither of us knew it would happen so quickly,” Daniels said.

He added: “He was my absolute rock and we were partners for over 30 years. If we weren't together we spoke every day. He was the kindest, most generous and most generous human being. more loving.

“He was a wonderful actor and everyone who worked with him was touched by his heart and his light. Honestly, I don't know what I will do without him by my side. He faced his terrible illness with so much courage, without any self-pity. He was remarkable and will be greatly missed.

Gelder played Kevan Lannister on HBO's Game of Thrones, as well as several Doctor Who roles, and most recently he starred in His Dark Materials.

He played Dekker in Torchwood: Children of Earth and was the voice of the Remnants in The Ghost Monument.

During Jodie Whittaker's tenure, he played the Eternal Zellin and voiced Dracula and Long John Silver in Big Finish's Legend of the Cybermen.

Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies has taken Instagram to pay tribute to the late actor, writing: “So sad to hear the news. I worked with Ian on Torchwood: Earth's Children, when he played the slippery, sarcastic, cold-hearted character Mr. Dekker. So unlike himself, he was charming and funny!

“When we started filming we only had 3 out of 5 scripts, so I apologized to him and told him I didn't understand what happened to Mr. Dekker at the end, s 'he had lived or if he had died 'Oh, goodness, men like that always do it.' And I thought: he's right.

“He's still hiding in his warren, Mr. Dekker, causing trouble with a smile. Rest in peace, Ian, love to Ben, his friends and family.”

Gelder's management also released a statement on X/Twitter.

“It was a pleasure to portray Ian Gelder for the latter part of his career. The world would be a lesser place without him. Ian was such a lovely person and a wonderful actor. I know he will be greatly missed by everyone who loved him. loved and worked alongside him,” DPA wrote.
