Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin over his recent visit to Ukraine and discussed steps to strengthen India-Russia relations.
In a message on X (formerly Twitter), Modi said: “I spoke with President Putin today. We discussed steps to further strengthen the special and privileged strategic partnership. We exchanged views on the Russia-Ukraine conflict and my impressions of the recent visit to Ukraine.
Modi also reiterated India's commitment to support an early and peaceful resolution of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

A day earlier, US President Joe Biden had also spoken to Prime Minister Modi regarding his visit to the conflict-torn country. We also discussed the situation in Bangladesh and stressed the need for an early return to normalcy and ensuring the safety of minorities, especially Hindus, in Bangladesh, Modi said in another message on X.
In a message posted on “X,” Biden said: “I spoke with Prime Minister Modi to discuss his recent trip to Poland and Ukraine, and commended him for his message of peace and continued humanitarian support for Ukraine.”
Last Friday, Modi flew to Ukraine for a nine-hour trip after concluding his visit to Poland. He met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and held crucial meetings. Modi also invited Zelensky to visit India during their talks.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Modi's visit comes weeks after his two-day visit to Russia in the first half of July. The two leaders discussed several crucial areas of cooperation and Prime Minister Modi announced the opening of two new consulates in the Russian cities of Kazan and Yekaterinburg.
During his trip, Modi also made the first direct public reference to the ongoing war, telling Putin that no solution to a conflict was possible on the battlefield.
Modi's trip to Russia particularly shocked Zelensky, who had expressed immense disappointment in responding to the warm embrace exchanged between Modi and Putin during the meeting.
