Prime Minister Modi and Spanish Prime Minister to inaugurate configuration of C295 military transport aircraft today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Spanish counterpart Pedro Sanchez will inaugurate a new factory in Vadodara on Monday that will produce C295 military transport aircraft. India's first private sector facility to build military aircraft will get a boost as additional orders are processed, bringing more work to India's defense ecosystem.

Sources said the factory will produce a total of 52 aircraft, including 40 for the Air Force and 12 for the Navy and Coast Guard. The additional order of 15 aircraft for the Navy and Coast Guard – 3 will be purchased off the shelf and the rest will be produced in India – has been approved by the Ministry of Defense and is currently being processed.

The Air Force already has an order for 56 military aircraft which was signed in September 2021 for 2,1935 crore. Of these, 40 are to be produced at the Vadodara plant.
Sources said production work would begin this year and the factory's first planes would be delivered by 2026. All Air Force planes will be delivered by August 2031, according to current plans.

The Indian manufacturing consortium is led by Tata Advanced Systems in partnership with Airbus Defense and Space SA Spain. In total, 37 companies have been identified by Airbus as subcontractors. Sources said a substantial proportion of components are expected to be manufactured in India.
