Registered exporters, mainly in Pernambuco and Bahia, will have the opportunity to supply the market under the new agreed protocol.
Brazilian table grapes have gained access to China, after the country's Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) agreed a new protocol with Chinese customs authorities.
The agreement was finalized during a bilateral meeting between the countries' presidents Luiz Incio Lula da Silva and Xi Jinping in Braslia.
It describes the phytosanitary and sanitary requirements for the export of Brazilian grapes to China.
According to Mapa, Brazil has also seen exponential growth in fresh grape exports.
It says Brazilian grapes already account for 2% of global trade in fresh grapes and points out that China, a major consumer of premium grapes, imported the product worth more than US$480 million in 2023.
Exports of fresh table grapes from Brazil to China will mainly come from Pernambuco and Bahia, the press release added.
Only registered orchards, packing facilities and cold processing facilities complying with good agricultural practices will be allowed to participate.
Guilherme Coelho, president of the fruit industry association Abrafrutas, commented: The entry of Brazilian fresh grapes into the Chinese market is a great achievement for the national fruit industry, which opens the doors to new business and consolidates Brazil as a global benchmark for quality and sustainability in the sector.
