The ATC gives an Imran Khan telephone call with the sons, restores the privileges of the book

Rawalpindi: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Rawalpindi ordered the prison authorities to facilitate a telephone call between the founder of PTI, Imran Khan and his sons, preferably during the next Aid vacation.

The order was made by judge Amjad Ali Shah in response to a request filed by Khans lawyer, Faisal Malik, requesting authorization from the former Prime Minister to communicate with his children. The court also approved another request from the Khans legal team, asking the prisoner authorities to provide them with books.

The decision comes in the midst of increasing concerns of the Khans family and the party on restrictions on their rights of communication and visit.

On Thursday, the PTI firmly criticized the government for pretending to deny family access to Khans to visit it at Adiala prison, despite the orders of the court. The party accused the authorities of violating its constitutional rights by keeping it in isolation in difficult conditions.

Khans' sister Aleema Khan, as well as other family members, tried to visit her on Tuesday, but were reportedly repressed by prison officials. This refusal came despite a recent directive of the High Court of Islamabad (IHC) allowing his family to meet him on Tuesday and party leaders on Thursday.

Earlier in the week, a bench of three IHC judges restored Khans's visit rights, saying that family members and political partners could meet him twice a week. However, the court stressed that all visitors were to be pre-approved by its coordinator, lawyer Salman Akram Raja.

During the procedure, the court expressed its concerns concerning visitors using prison meetings for political messaging. The acting chief judge, Sarfaraz Dogar, stressed that meetings should remain deprived and that visitors must sign a business to refrain from making public statements after meeting Khan.

In a parallel development, Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, filed petitions before the High Court of Islamabad requesting the suspension of their convictions in the Trust case of 190 million al-Qadir.

Petitions, submitted by their lawyer Salman Safdar, argue that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) abused his authority and did not conduct a complete investigation. The defense says that a key omission in the case was non-compliance with a declaration by the National Crime Agency (NCA), which initially investigated the funds in question. Petitions also argue that the NAB did not even question the NCA officials to verify the allegations.

A Rawalpindi court of responsibility had sentenced Khan to 14 years in prison in the Al-Qadir Trust case, while Bushra Bibi received a sentence of seven years in prison. The court also imposed fines of Rs. 1 million on Khan and Rs. 500,000 on Bushra Bibi. In the event of non-payment, Khan would risk six months in prison additional, while his wife would serve three additional months.

After the verdict, Bushra Bibi was arrested from the Rawalpindi courtroom and transferred to prison.

While legal battles continue, supporters of the PTI and family members require greater transparency and access to the former Prime Minister.
