The IBP Ice Center is displayed in Sioux City. The Siouxland Youth Hockey Association is raising funds for a renovation project at the facility, which will include the construction of locker rooms for high schools and junior varsities and an expanded lobby space on the east side of the building.

Kirk Lukehart, chair of the nonprofit’s fundraising committee, said the project includes the construction of locker rooms for high schools and junior varsities and extensive lobby space on the east side of the building, as well as rooms for coaches and storage.
Lukehart said the association has already raised nearly $600,000 for the project, which is expected to cost between $1.2 and $1.4 million.
The need for locker room expansion became apparent two years ago, when Siouxland Youth Hockey’s girls’ program more than doubled in size, Lukehart said.
“I think what went from 10 or 15 girls to 30 plus now was really the tipping point that said, ‘We have to do something,’ not only as we planned for some high school skaters, but some girls too,” he said. said. “Right now they use a converted office as a dressing room.”
Officials announced the project on Tuesday evening during a celebration to mark the association’s 50th anniversary.
The association funded and built the ice cream center, which opened in 1997. The group later handed over the building to the city, which agreed to operate and maintain it.
