CRICKET: Outdoor club facilities may reopen if safety instructions are followed
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has published guidelines for the use of outdoor cricket facilities during the coronavirus lockout period.
This Wednesday (May 13) saw the return of some outdoor sports to England, but the position of the ECB was that all forms of recreational cricket remained suspended until a plan could be put in place that allows the return of cricket outdoors without compromising the safety of people.
However, today (15 May) the ECB has published guidelines for cricket clubs on the reopening of nets and outside fields for the practice of cricket.
The guidelines emphasize that no club should reopen its outdoor facilities if it does not feel able to meet security requirements and there should be no unauthorized access.
If a club reopens its outdoor facilities, people who wish to exercise there can only do so with members of their household or with another person outside their home while keeping two meters away at all times.
The need to maintain a social distance also means that the nets must be used “all the others”, by leaving a free net between the nets, and only individual coaching is authorized.
Those who practice cricket should use their own equipment if possible, and no saliva or perspiration should come into contact with the ball.
The pavilions can be opened for limited purposes, such as access to toilets or the use of first aid equipment, but common areas – bars, changing rooms, etc. – must remain closed for the time being.
Clubs must also ensure that they have properly maintained facilities and that they use a reservation system for outdoor spaces or some other way of managing access and demand.
