Virat Kohli retires: Kohli announces retirement from T20 International cricket, says it's time for the next generation
“This was my last T20 World Cup, this is exactly what we wanted to achieve,” Kohli said on air after India's victory in a global tournament after 11 years. “One day you feel like you can't get a run and this happens, God is great. (It's) just the opportunity, now or never kind of situation. This was my last T20 match for India. We wanted that cup hold it up,” he said.
“Yes I have, it was an open secret (retirement). Not something I wouldn't have announced even if we had lost. Time for the next generation to take the T20 game forward,” Kohli confirmed when asked if he was making the official announcement of his retirement.
“It has been waiting for us for a long time, waiting to win an ICC tournament. Look at someone like Rohit (Sharma), he has played nine T20 World Cups and this is my sixth.
“He deserves it. It was difficult to hold back things (emotions) and I think it will sink in later. It's a great day and I'm grateful,” Kohli added.

In 35 T20 World Cup matches, Virat has scored 1,292 runs at an average of 58.72 and a strike rate of 128.81, with 15 half-centuries. His best score is 89*. He is the highest points scorer in the history of the tournament.

Earlier in the match, Kohli regained his form at the right time to hit a fifty against South Africa in the T20 World Cup final.
Kohli's 76 (59b, 6×4, 2×6), his first in this tournament.
India defeated South Africa by seven runs in the match.
Kohli was later awarded the Man of the Match award.
