Utica Hobart Colleges Third Right Right Right Right One-goal victory gave the program its third consecutive national championship.
With 1:35 over to go overtime on Sunday evening, Kahlil Fontana chased a puck dumped in the offensive zone, won a one-on-one fight and collected a puck that made him from behind the net to him. Fontana circled around his forehand and fired an incredible shot while he fell on the ice, a movement that gave him the corner to shoot the puck around the goalkeeper of Utica University Ryan Piros.
The capacity proceed was almost too stunned to cheer. Soon it attacked, and gloves, sticks, helmets and hands flew into the air.
The Staatsmen (29-1-1) had beat Utica 2-1 to win his third consecutive NCAA Division III title, the first time in 19 years a team has won many D3 hockey titles.
It was a monstrous effort from Utica early. The pioneers (24-5) came out with energy in the hometown and somehow suppressed Hobarts attack. Utica did what no other team managed to do against Hobart this season: they broke the States person forecheck.
Utica stacked players in the neutral zone and had the numbers and speed to prevent Hobart from getting the offensive zone neatly or to collect and close the dump-in before Hobart skaters could pin them in their own zone.
On the other hand, Damon Beaver spent a long time and made 11 saves. The first period ended with the state people who were surpassed 11-5.
However, the state people succeeded in scrapping the expected eruption of energy from the pioneers, and the second period started at 0-0, with Hobart concentrated much of his energy directly on the Utica goal.
But the Pioneers maintained his attacking game plan of speed and figures on zone entries. Halfway through the period, Utica shot a puck on the net with bodies at the front. The Puck bounced out for the best player of Uticas in the all-tournament team Ember Eric Vitale, who dismissed the Puckbar-Down in a practically empty and set up the pioneers with 1-0 to 10:26.
In the last few minutes of the second period, Hobart still had trouble getting a longer zone -and a clean look at the goal. Uticas defenders forced Hobart players outside and continued to deal with their forechack well. Hobart, however, began to press Utica heavily in the last two minutes and began to find their game when the third period arrived.
With just over 11 minutes to go, Hobart replicated what Utica did for their goal by throwing a puck on the net with bodies in front. After he was a spark for the fourth rule that was all game for a long time, first-year student Easton Ryan hit the rebound and tied the game 1-1.
The statesman surpassed the Pioneers 14-8 in the third period. Piros, however, remained fantastic in Net and the game went to extension, Hobarts second extra session game of the tournament. In the extension it was the pioneers with the most dangerous opportunities, all of whom came from hurry. In addition to ringing a shot from the post, Beaver Utica players left in disbelief with wonderful save after Save.
While Utica had several strange man, Hobart continued to trust his annoying forechall.
A dump-in from the second line of Hobarts made both teams change, but right-wing Fontana was not forthcoming and put under pressure uticas defenders. Only he stole the puck and made sure that the statesmen would enjoy a new raw ride home with a shiny trophy in tow.
