Ryan Warsofsky appointed head coach of the national team of the American gentlemen
Colorado Springs, Colo. – Ryan Warsofsky (North Marshfield, Mass.), Head coach of the San Jose Sharks of the NHL, has been appointed head coach of the National Team of the American men for the 2025 IIHF Heren World ChampionshipIt was announced today by USA Hockey. The event is planned for 9-25 May in Herning, Denmark and Stockholm, Sweden.
“Ryan is an exceptional young coach,” said Jeff KealtyGeneral Manager of the American National Team of Men and also Assistant -Along -Condition Director of the NHL's Nashville Predators. “He makes good contact with players and fits well to lead our team in the world championship, while we strive to take the gold medal home.”
Warsofsky served as an assistant coach for the American national team of the American gentlemen at the Hersten 2023 IIHF world championship, where Team USA won the first eight games in the event for the first time.
In his first season as head coach of the Sharks and the current youngest bench boss in the NHL, Warsofsky served two seasons as an assistant coach with San Jose before he stood to his current role.
Before Warsofsky came to the Sharks, Warsofsky was the Chicago Wolves's head coach of the AHL for two seasons (2020-22), where in 2022 he became the youngest coach at the age of 34 since Peter Laviolette in 1999 to guide a team to the Calder Cup.
He also spent two seasons with the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL-one as an assistant (2018-19) and one as head coach (2019-20). In 2019 he helped guide the donors to the Calder Cup.
Warsofsky's coaching career started in 2012-2013 with his Alma Mater, NCAA Division III Curry College, as an assistant after two seasons with the team as a player. He then joined the South Carolina van Echl in 2013 and served three seasons as an assistant before he was promoted to head coach and director of hockey operations for his last two campaigns (2016-18).
About the World Championship of 2025 IIHF gentlemen
The IIHF Heren World Championship comprises two groups of eight teams. Team USA is in group B with the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Norway and Switzerland with group stage matches that are played in Herning. Group A, who will play his group stage games in Stockholm, includes Austria, Canada, Finland, France, Latvia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Sweden. Each city will organize two quarter-final competitions, with both semi-finals, together with the bronze and gold medal competitions, which take place in Stockholm.
