International Cricket Council is Taskforce to help the displaced female players of Afghanistan
ICC chairman Jay Shah said: “We are deeply committed to promoting inclusiveness and ensuring that every cricket player has the chance to shine, regardless of their circumstances.
“In collaboration with our valued partners, we are proud to launch this Task Force and Support Fund, supplemented with an extensive high-performance program, to ensure that displaced Afghan female cricketers can continue their journey in sport.
“This initiative reflects our steadfast dedication to the global growth of cricket and its strength to inspire unity, resilience and hope.”
ECB director Richard Gould said: “We are proud to support this new initiative of the ICC. We have recently been vocal about the need for meaningful financing to support female players from Afghanistan, so that they can thrive despite not playing at home.
“After having previously contributed a significant amount to the Global Refugee Cricket Fund, we are encouraged that this positive step of the ICC will go even further.
“We want the Afghanistan women's team to remain a beacon of hope for all women and girls.”
The ICC requires its full members, of which Afghanistan is one, have a national women's team, but the men's team has retained its test status, reached the semi -final of last year's T20 World Cup and participated in the Champions Trophy earlier this year.
The match of England against Afghanistan in the tournament took place as planned, despite a group of members of parliament in various political parties who asked England to boycott the match.
