Amazon Web Services Holds DC Summit to Discuss Cloud Technology and Innovation

Washington (7News) Amazon Web Services (AWS) will host the DC Summit, a free event this week at the Washington Convention Center to discuss cloud technology and innovation.

That conversation also includes the AWS Disaster Response Team. June officially marks the start of the hurricane season, but response planning and organization happens behind the scenes long before a natural disaster strikes.

The AWS Disaster Response Jeep is equipped with high-tech equipment that enables first responders to map disaster areas using cloud technology without an internet connection.

AWS also made significant announcements Wednesday about two new initiatives impacting young people in the STEAM fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.

AWS has a growing number of educational programs across Virginia, including the Girls Tech series and AWS CloudRoom. The program supports DMV K-12 school districts and encourages girls to enter her STEAM profession.

Amazon Web Services also announced additional investments in Virginia.

Did you know that Virginia is the birthplace of the cloud? More than 70% of the internet traverses within the Commonwealth. AWS announced Wednesday that it has invested $51.9 billion in VA between 2011 and 2021 to build AWS data centers in Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William counties.
