Clear Creek Makerspace brings cutting-edge technology to the public

The Clear Creek Makerspace is one of many in the area, but the new space for maker innovation across from Anderson Park on 44th Street in Wheat Ridge is the largest along the Front Range, according to Makerspace Program Director Tyler Carr.

The 7,500-square-foot space was designed to serve the needs of manufacturers in the Wheat Ridge area, Carr said.

Makerspaces are also a place to share resources and access things you might not have at home, Carr said. Some tools might be a little difficult to have at home: expensive, too big, or require special ventilation or extra power. Maybe you just need a table saw for a particular project and don't need to buy a full table saw. That's what a makerspace is for.

The space supports projects that require new technologies, such as 3D printing, computer numerically controlled woodworking, computer controlled cutting of fabrics, plastics, leather, etc. It also has equipment and materials for makers in more traditional trades, such as woodworking, welding and metal fabrication.

Clear Creek Makerspace offers resources for many types of makers and their projects. As shown in this photo, they can accommodate large-scale woodworking projects, metal fabrication, and even welding. “There's definitely a lot of traditional manufacturing techniques in the metal shop,” Carr said. “We have everything you need for small-batch production, hobby work, repair work and rapid prototyping, so we have a lot of machine cutting and bending equipment. We also have MIG and TIG welding and plasma cutting.”

Carr said the makerspace's goal in its first year is to offer a wide range of technologies to the community, but there are limitations.

There are no plans to mass produce them, Carr said.

In addition to the equipment, the space includes a learning lab, where the makerspace holds classes for members and the public; a fabrication lab for creating small-scale projects and is equipped with 12 different 3D printers; a very large woodworking room and a spacious metal workshop; and members have access to a kitchen, meeting rooms, and a members' lounge.

Carr said it's not just the size of the Clear Creek Makerspace that sets it apart: The center is also bolstered by partnerships with the city of Wheat Ridge, the nonprofit organization Local Works and federal grantmaking organizations.

“Right now, our funding comes partly from the city, partly from grants. We've received some federal grant funding and we're continually applying for more, some of which is funded through LocalWorks,” Carr explained.

Carr said the remaining funding would come from membership fees and the cost of certain training courses.

“We're not looking to make millions of dollars. All we really want is to be able to stay open and provide resources for people,” Carr said.

Carr said the goal of the makerspace is to become a public place to visit for innovation and education, similar to a library or gym.

Wheat Ridge's gym offers exercise equipment and a space to improve health and fitness, Carr said. “The makerspace is a third option after the library and gym resources. It's a third place where people can be creative, learn new skills and small businesses can grow and start up in Wheat Ridge.”

Paige Piper, executive director of LocalWorks, said the makerspace will bring many benefits to the city of Wheat Ridge.

“I think the makerspace will help foster entrepreneurship. It will foster innovation and give people another third place to turn, and I think that will bring people to Wheat Ridge,” Piper said.

Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily.
