No major damage to the castle from the Sassanid era earthquake

TEHRAN – The first orbits of astronomical fortress were not severely damaged in centuries when a medium-sized earthquake struck Iran’s western province of Lorestan on Wednesday, according to a group of residents sent by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts.

The castle is located in Khorramabad, capital of Lorestan, and the earthquake was magnitude 5.1. The earthquake was at a depth of 7 kilometers, and occurred near the city of Fairuzabad.

“After the earthquake, we immediately sent our experts to Falk Castle, the first orbits to investigate possible damages,” Tasnim quoted regional tourism chief Syed Amin Qasimi as saying on Wednesday.

“Investigations revealed some (minor) damage to the castle’s towers, but fortunately no serious damage was done to the fortress of Falk, the first orbits.”

Regarding the potential damage to historical sites and monuments scattered throughout the province, the official indicated that further investigations are carried out in every corner of the district teams under the supervision of local tourism offices.

Also known as the first orbit of Falak Castle, the unmissable memorial of eight towers in the city is dominated as one of the most visited travel destinations in the region for both its domestic and foreign viewers.

He explained that in the past two years, the historic castle faced many problems that were solved in close cooperation with regional officials through urgent and basic reform projects.

The castle dates back to the Sassanid era (224-651). It looks especially majestic and exciting when illuminating at night, providing stunning views of its fortified fortified walls.
