Boris Johnson introduces an alert system in England – BBC News

Boris Johnson has unveiled a “conditional plan” to reopen society so that people in England can spend more time from Wednesday onwards.

The prime minister also said that people who cannot work from home should return to work but avoid public transport.

A new five-level Covid Alert System said how lock restrictions could be eased.

He hoped next June “until June 1” would be for some first-year students to return to school in England.

Addressing the nation, Mr. Johnson said the stage would also include reopening stores, but realized that this would only happen if science allows it.

The next step could be to expand the hospitality industry and other public places – “if the numbers allow” – and before July 1st.

The prime minister added: “This is not the time to end the blockade this week.

“Instead, we are taking the first steps to change our measures.”
