Watch: Students help classmates with different abilities to evacuate during an earthquake

A 4.8-magnitude earthquake last week rocked Shimian County in China’s Sichuan Province. Footage of a class full of evacuees as the earthquake struck is now circulating on social media.

The video, which appears to have been recorded with the school’s CCTV camera, shows the students hiding under desks while noticing the earthquake.

The students quickly cover their heads with notebooks or their hands and immediately exit the classroom. However, at the back of the class, the student who was using a wheelchair remained stationary until his classmates pushed his wheelchair to safety.

Upon closer examination of the video, it appears that the first student helping a student of different abilities was sitting in the front row. However, instead of leaving the class, the boy goes and helps his classmate. Three other students are seen evacuating desks that restrict their way to the exit while the teacher stands by the door and urges everyone to leave the school building quickly.

This 30-second video was posted on Twitter by former Norwegian diplomat Erik Solheim on Wednesday. Solheim wrote during the video tweet, “Solidarity! On May 20, in middle school the 4.8 magnitude Sichuan earthquake was not forgotten by teachers and classmates in a wheelchair. ???.”
