Gujarat: an earthquake of magnitude 3.1 recorded 12 km from Sardar Sarovar Dam

A small earthquake measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale was registered just 12 kilometers from Sardar Sarovar Dam in Kivadia, south Gujarat, on Monday night, official sources said.

The quake occurred at a depth of 12.7 km, and there were no reports of injuries or damage to existing structures.

The epicenter of the 10.07 p.m. quake was just 12 kilometers, east-southeast of Kivadia, which houses the dam on the Narmada River and the Unity Statue, according to the Gandhinagar-based Institute of Earthquake Research (ISR). Study of seismic activity near the dam for several years.
