President Biden has been accused by the US Supreme Court of having dealt a “terrible blow” to efforts to tackle the climate crisis. In a landmark ruling, the court ruled that the federal government in Washington does not have the power to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from U.S. power plants. This means that politics can be decided by individual US states. The lawsuit against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency was filed on behalf of West Virginia, mostly on behalf of 18 other Republican-led states and the nation’s largest coal companies.
