The government is considering increasing financing assistance for earthquake-stricken homes in Cianjur

TEMPO.CO, Cianjur, West Java – The government is considering reviewing the amount of stimulus financing provided for earthquake-stricken homes in Cianjur district, West Java.

“Today we held a coordination meeting at the ministerial level to discuss a proposal to review the amount of stimulus funds for earthquake-affected homes in Cianjur,” said Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhajir Effendi, following the meeting held at the Cabinet headquarters. He pointed out that the meeting agreed on several points, including a plan to review the volume of funds activated to repair homes in the areas hit by the earthquake.

“This is in accordance with the directives of President Joko Widodo,” he said.

The next point was about increasing financing from Rs 50 million to Rs 60 million for seriously damaged houses, from Rs 25 million to Rs 30 million for moderately damaged houses, and from Rs 10 million to Rs 15 million for slightly damaged houses.

To this end, the government has deemed it necessary to review National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Chief Decision No. 85 of 2022 regarding ready-to-use funds to mitigate the impact of the Cianjur earthquake.

“We hope that all ministries and (non-ministerial) institutions will be able to follow up on this according to the President’s directives,” he added.

The minister said that based on the data released on Monday, the earthquake that hit Cianjur on November 21, 2022 caused damage to 56,480 homes, 13,633 homes were seriously damaged and 16,059 homes were moderately damaged.

He further said that concurrent efforts are being made to speed up the post-earthquake recovery in Cianjur.

“The simultaneous efforts start from emergency response and rehabilitation to the stages of reconstruction,” he said.
