A 5.9-magnitude earthquake hits northern Pakistan

Islamabad:

A strong earthquake struck parts of northern Pakistan on Thursday night, and various tremors were felt in different cities including Peshawar, Charsadda and the mountainous Swat Valley in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), its magnitude was recorded on the Richter scale at 5.9 degrees, with the epicenter recorded 43 kilometers southwest of Gorm in neighboring Afghanistan at a depth of 193.8 kilometers. .

In Pakistan, earthquakes have been reported from Peshawar, Takht Bei, Dir Bala, Landi Kotal, Swat, Swabi, Hangu, Charsada, and surrounding areas.

There have been no reports of casualties or loss of life so far.

A strong earthquake was felt on Wednesday in various cities in Punjab, including Lahore.

The magnitude of the Wedesnday earthquake was recorded at 4.1 at a depth of five kilometres. The Met Office said the epicenter was located 34 km west of Lahore and 12 km west of Sheikhupura.
