An earthquake of magnitude 5.6 hits parts of Khyber-Bakhtakh Province: Bamd – Pakistan

A 5.6-magnitude earthquake jolted a number of districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday at around 4:30 pm.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PDM), tremors were felt in Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsada, Kohat, Swabi, Lower Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Batgram and Khyber.

PMD said the epicenter was 37 kilometers west of Chitral with a depth of approximately 190 kilometers. Its longitude was 71.39 east and latitude 35.89 north.

The Meteorological Department added that no information has been reported about any loss of life or property so far.

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), a US government agency that tracks seismic activity worldwide, the depth was measured at 96 km with a magnitude of 5.1, 4.7 km from Barun, Afghanistan.

However, EMSC, an independent Paris-based seismic tracker, said the intensity of the quakes was 5.1 at a depth of 100 km.

On January 5th, a 5.8-magnitude earthquake rocked parts of the country, according to the Department of Religious Affairs.

PMD’s National Seismological Center said the quake occurred at 7:25 pm in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan at a depth of 173 km. It was 70.60 east longitude and 36.53 north latitude.
