A 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck Tonga, prompting authorities to assess a tsunami risk, but no warning was issued, providing relief to coastal areas.

The seismic event occurred at sea, and its epicenter was located about 73 kilometers northwest of Hiefu, Tonga. According to the USGS, the earthquake had a great depth of 212 kilometers (132 miles).
