I had very emotional moments on Friday, June 23, 2023, and yesterday, Saturday, June 24, 2023, Enabulele said, when I visited the cities of Adana and Hatay in Turkey, both of which were among the other cities affected by the devastating earthquake. that occurred in Türkiye.

My visit to Hatay was particularly revealing as I was in close contact with many displaced families – men, women, elderly people, young children and orphans – who are living in various shelter camps and struggling to meet the basic needs of life.

On my journey through the cities, I heard of many who died and many who were injured. I witnessed many devastated communities and had personal interactions with those who lost loved ones, including the sad case of a doctor who lost his wife and children to the earthquake, but despite this, was still providing healthcare to other injured victims.

In fact, my heart bled uncontrollably with constant thoughts of what more could be done to support my current resettlement and rehabilitation efforts. Despite the difficult working conditions, I saw healthcare teams led by doctors under the auspices of the Turkish Medical Association happily providing care to the displaced. People and earthquake victims.

I commend the Turkish Medical Association and its coordinating teams, and all the doctors and other healthcare staff, as well as the volunteers and other groups, who daily look after the needs of the displaced and the injured.
