PR help earthquakes exceed 104 million

Ponce, Puerto Rico – More than $ 104 million in federal disaster assistance is helping to support the recovery of Puerto Rican residents and companies that suffered earthquake damage that started on December 28.

As of July 13, FEMA’s Individuals and Families Program approved more than $ 55.3 million in housing assistance to repair disaster-affected homes and pay for temporary housing. Another $ 2 million has been approved under “Other Needs Assistance”, a FEMA program that provides funding for disaster-related and critical needs expenditures including medical, dental, transport, funeral, transport and warehousing expenses.

As of July 13, the U.S. Small Business Administration approved more than $ 39.9 million in catastrophic low-interest loans for 1,395 homeowners, tenants, and businesses including:

* More than $ 37.4 million for 1,315 homeowners and tenants;

To date, over $ 575,676 of reforms have been approved under the FEMA Public Assistance Program, which is the primary source of assistance for core government agencies, public institutions, and some private non-profit organizations.

The Puerto Rico government is working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency to ensure that 88 eligible applicants who have applied for public assistance assess and document and accurately document damage to schools, buildings, and other critical infrastructure. The program has already provided legal assistance in legal cases to 304 low-income earthquake survivors who were dealing with various problems such as insurance claims for doctors’ and hospital bills, home repair contracts, and contractors.

As the earthquake recovery process moves forward, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has reopened seven disaster recovery centers in Cialis, Guanica, Guyana, Pinoyellas, Pons, San Sebastian and Yaku under COVID-19 safety measures. Residents can speak to specialists in person and update their applications. The centers are expected to remain open until July 24, and the other centers will be reopened as needed.

Fifteen fixed and mobile disaster recovery centers were opened after the earthquake disaster was announced on January 16. As of July 12, there were 29,731 visits to recovery centers, including those that had been reopened after the Federal Emergency Management Agency suspended field operations for three months.

The deadline to apply for FEMA assistance and SBA material damage loan requests was July 2. The deadline for companies to submit applications for economic injury loans to SBA is October 16.
