GURUGRAMI: A meat supplier from Mewat allegedly beaten by a group of cow vigilantes at Gurugram on Friday on suspicion he was transporting cow meat. A video of the incident is being filmed on social media, in which the group can be seen knocking down Lukman (25), a resident of Mewat, in the presence of police.
Lukman said he had arrived at Sector 4-5 Chowk around 9 a.m. with a shipment of buffalo meat in his van when some young men with five or two men started following him.
There were about eight to 10 men. They yelled at me stopping my vehicle. Fearing for my safety, I hurried. I had just stopped my vehicle inside Sadar Bazaar when the men reached me and pulled me out of the truck. They threw iron rods at me saying I was transporting beef, Lukman told police. As passers-by and some police officers began to gather on the spot, the men pushed Lukman back inside the truck and drove him straight Sohna.
A police team chased the truck and rescued Lukman. The youths even attacked the police and damaged their vehicle before fleeing. Police took Lukman to the hospital. Although he suffered several fractures, his condition is reported to be stable.
Even after the faces of the men who knocked him down are clearly visible in the video, police have set up a FIR against unknown individuals under Articles 147 (riots), 148 (deadly gun rebellions), 149 (illegal assemblies), 323 (by causing injuries), 325 (causing a serious injury), 341 (incorrect restriction), 342 (incorrect closure) and 427 (bad injury behavior) of the IPC at Badshapur police station. The meat was sent to a forensic laboratory for examination.
