According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the earthquakes do not pose a tsunami threat to Hawaii, the West Coast of the United States, or any U.S. territories.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said a slight change in sea level is expected in Japan's southern islands near Taiwan, but no tsunami damage is expected.

The area has been seismically active for weeks since a deadly earthquake occurred in early April, the strongest to hit Taiwan in nearly 25 years.

The 7.4-magnitude earthquake occurred on April 3 near the same area where Tuesday's earthquake occurred.
