Earthquake: Earthquake near Warna Dam in Sangli | Kolhapur News

KOLHAPUR: A 3.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded by the seismograph at Chandoli (Warna) dam in Chirala area of ​​Sangli district early on Wednesday. The tremors, which lasted for 42 seconds, were felt as far as Chirala town. Since the quake struck early in the morning, residents were particularly alarmed by the tremor, which was reported by the Warna Irrigation Department. The epicentre of the quake was about eight kilometres west of the dam, which is currently 87% full due to incessant rains. Authorities have warned people living along the banks to keep an eye on the rising water levels of the Warna River, which flows along the border of Kolhapur and Sangli districts. The precaution comes as water is being released from the dam. The Warna dam is located along the Koyna-Warna fault zone, an area known for frequent minor tremors caused by underground movements.
