Romo joins Holy Cross

Mia Romo, of Gilroy, has joined the College of the Holy Cross, located in Worcester, Massachusetts, as a member of the college's Class of 2028.

The Class of 2028, which includes 835 students, includes students from 507 different high schools, 41 U.S. states and territories, 13 different countries, and 33 different languages, according to a news release from the college.

Football Clinic Boosts Youth Health

San Jose Earthquakes and Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County are partnering to bring soccer to South County youth with a free soccer coaching session for 150 youth ages 5-14, led by Quakes staff. The event will be held from 2-4:30 p.m. on Sept. 22 at South Valley Middle School, 385 IOOF Ave. in Gilroy.

The event will also include free play for youth not enrolled in the clinic, a soccer-related art activity for those who don't play soccer and more than two dozen local organizations providing community resources to families, according to a news release.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the prevalence of obesity among children and teens in the United States was 19.7 percent from 2017 to March 2020, according to the press release. For children, obesity is defined as a body mass index (BMI) at or above the 95th percentile for age and sex.

In Gilroy, the obesity rate jumped from 45.5 percent in 2015 to 50.6 percent in 2019 among seventh graders, with only 12 percent meeting all fitness standards in 2019, according to the press release. All other grades had similar statistics, according to California Department of Education physical fitness testing research files posted on Kidsdata.org.

Quakes and Catholic Charities say they have a shared goal of encouraging children to be more active and healthy.

“The COEX clinic is an opportunity that most South County youth do not have,” said John Perales of Catholic Charities. “Plus, this event serves as a catalyst for Catholic Charities’ futsal gang prevention program, which will begin this fall.”

View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price.
