Seismologist Kevin McCoy, an assistant professor at the University of Queensland, is curious about the quake, but said its occurrence is not entirely unexpected. He explained: “Looking at the database, New England had nearly 20 earthquakes of this magnitude in about 60 years.” “This is about once every three years, with a strength of 2.5 and more.” But the interesting thing is that only one aftershock was recorded about 14 minutes after the first earthquake. “I think it’s an interesting thing, one little aftershock,” he said.
