What should you pack in your emergency bag during a pandemic?

If the past seven months have taught us anything, we must be prepared for the unexpected – whether from earthquakes, wildfires or yes, a global pandemic.

That’s why this year in the run-up to the October 15 ShakeOut BC event, St. John’s Ambulance compiles a non-reducing stock of emergency kits to stockpile in times of global contagion.

First some basics.

Any survival kit should last at least 72 hours, although storage for a week and beyond is ideal. Pack enough food and water for the entire family and make sure nothing has expired. Although maintaining a well-stocked first aid kit is important, knowing how to use it correctly is crucial.

Check to ensure that battery-powered or battery-powered radios and light bulbs are in good working order, and keep a cache of personal items such as prescription medications, family documents, change of clothes, shoes, toys, and toys to keep children busy, pets supplies, and local maps indicating gathering points at Community and cash emergencies.

It is also recommended to create a personal or family disaster plan.

Organized by the BC Earthquake Alliance, the annual Great British Columbia ShakeOut Festival begins October 15 at 10:15 a.m. as a training, intended to provide opportunities to practice the “Drop, Cover and Hold On” earthquake protocol and to help prepare for an earthquake at home, school, office or On the go.
