It’s April, so talkSPORT.com looks the best in football – and there were classics.
1. Roman Abramovich has named himself Chelsea’s new manager
We start with our own gags Day Fool’s Day’s Fool’s Day. On April 1, 2013, with Rafael Benitez proving the very unpopular interim manager at Stamford Bridge – and the ninth boss in less than a decade owned by Roman Abramovich – our fearless reporter ‘Paolo Fril’ informed the world that the Russian was planning to name himself next Chelsea manager. We even got former Blues boss Gianluc Vialli to confirm that Abramovich was contacted for advice on how he was the boss, and the Italian informed us that he wanted to buy his coaching badges!
2. Grandstand fight
When Des Lynam introduced viewers to Beeb’s flagship Saturday sports show on April 1, 1989, two men in the studio behind began a feud. One day we hope to see something similar on Sky Soccer Saturday, except the real one. We actually just want the show, along with GameDay Live, to return to the airwaves.
3. Craven cottage sinks
BBC Teletext – Remember That? – claimed on 1 April 2000 that Fulham’s river soil, Craven Cottage, had gradually sunk into the Thames River. He was an April fool, but this season, Fulham seems to be sinking really fast.

4. Ian Rush signs for Everton
In the 1980s Merseyside rivals Liverpool they were undoubtedly the two best teams in England, if not in Europe, and one man who seemed to give the Merseyside red half was Ian Rush.
