Violence in Washington DC against Trump supporters storming US Capitol – BBC Newsnight

Democrats called on President Donald Trump to “strengthen” and reject violence. In a tweeted video, Trump claims to have “stolen” the vote, but asked protesters to go “home”. The joint session of Congress, which confirms the votes of the electoral colleges, has been suspended and forced to rest. Protesters fought in front of police to violate the U.S. Capitol, waving pro-Trump and U.S. flags as they marched through halls of shouting and waving, demanding the suspension of presidential election results. The invasion sent members of Congress looking for cover under seats and wearing gas masks when they fired tear gas at the Capitol Rotunda. The woman who was shot in the incident has died, according to US media.
