An earthquake of magnitude 3.9 was recorded 30 miles south of Tinslip

TENSLEEP, Wyo. (Wyoming News now) –

A 3.9 earthquake was recorded in the early morning hours of April 13th. It was located 62 miles northeast of Riverton, and about 30 miles south of Tinslip.

The earthquake was considered minor and the USGS has received reports of feeling it in Casper, Riverton, Casey, Green River, Thermopolis and of course Tinslip.

It was recorded as having a depth of 8.5 miles, and was considered to be naturally occurring and not due to human activity. It is unlikely that there was anything to do with Yellowstone, Paul Earle, a seismologist with the United States Geological Survey.

“If you look back about 20 years, we see about 25 earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 and larger within about 50 miles of this earthquake. There are quite a number of earthquakes, and if you are close to a magnitude of 2.5, you can feel that,” Earle added. 25 earthquakes that could be felt if someone were near them, in the past 20 years. “
