Greek forces use tear gas to prevent migrants from crossing the Turkish border
KASTANIES / LESBOS, Greece (Reuters) – Riot police and Greek troops on Wednesday used water cannons and tear gas against hundreds of migrants as they again tried to cross the Turkish-Greek border .

Plumes of black smoke drifted over the Kastanies border crossing, and a fire truck sped away to extinguish smoking flames. Greek soldiers also fired warning shots in the air.
A Reuters witness saw cartridges of tear gas being thrown from the Turkish side of the border towards the Greek police on a high razor wire. It was not clear who launched the canisters.
Video footage showed migrants carrying an injured man far from the border. It was not clear how he was injured.
A Greek army vehicle fitted with loudspeakers informed migrants in Arabic and other languages that the border was closed.
More than 10,000 migrants have attempted to cross the border since Turkey said last Thursday that it will no longer comply with a 2016 agreement with the European Union to stop flows of illegal migration to Europe in exchange for billions of euros in aid.
Greece and EU accuse Turkey of pressuring migrants to 'blackmail' Brussels to offer more money or support the geopolitical goals of Ankara in the Syrian conflict.
Turkey, already hosting 3.6 million Syrian refugees and facing a new influx of renewed fighting in north-western Syria, says the EU is doing nothing as sufficient aid to cope with the scale of the migrant crisis.
President Tayyip Erdogan also accused Greek forces of killing two migrants, an allegation denied by Athens.
"I call on the countries of the European Union, namely Greece, to act in accordance with the Declaration of Human Rights and to respect migrants arriving on their lands," Erdogan said on Wednesday. to the legislators of his ruling AK party.

He repeated his allegation that Greek coast guard vessels were attempting to sink ships carrying migrants across the Aegean Sea from the Turkish coast to Lesbos and other Greek islands, which Athens also denies.
A number of dinghies arrived on the Greek islands from the neighboring Turkish coast last week, although the rough seas discouraged departures for a second consecutive day on Wednesday.
A navy ship docked at the port of Lesbos will welcome 508 migrants who have arrived since March 2 once they have been identified, said a coast guard official. He did not say where the ship would take them.
Hussein, in a group of a hundred migrants who arrived in Lesbos four days ago and camped on the shore, said that he left Afghanistan with his 17-year-old brother some time ago a month and crossed Iran and Turkey before reaching the island by canoe. .
"Our future is going to be bright because I am an educated person, so I don't need a lot of help. I want to finish my studies, then I will need a job "He told Reuters.
European leaders pledged 700 million euros in aid to Greece on Tuesday and urged Turkey to suspend the end of the 2016 deal.
They fear a repeat of the 2015-2016 migrant crisis, when more than a million migrants arrived in Western Europe via Turkey and the Balkans, straining European security and welfare services and strengthening support for far right parties.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, known for his firm anti-immigrant stance, said on Wednesday that 130,000 migrants had already crossed the Greek border from Turkey and that they should be arrested as far south as possible.
