According to the state’s October 29 school outbreak report, there were a total of 189 COVID-19 outbreaks at K-12 schools between August 1st and September 30th, of which 1,284. There were 42 cases in August and 147 cases in September.
Of the 189 outbreaks, 12% occurred in private schools and 88% in public schools. About 63 percent of outbreaks occurred in primary school.
According to the report, there were 5 COVID-19 outbreaks in Cowlitz County during that period, including 25 cases.
Longview, Castle Rock, and Kelso schools all use the COVID-19 dashboard to report cases at school. Other districts do not publicly report incidents at school. Kelso will only report cases between students who have been confirmed to be sent at school.
Since October 21, the Longview School District has reported 13 new cases, two of which were staff. One of those new cases was sent at the School of Mint Valley Elementary School. From the beginning of the school, the district reported 241 cases between students and staff.
