Mutations in the Delta variant, known as Delta Plus, have hit the UK in new cases. Detected in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and six other states.
Delta Plus was first detected in the UK in September, leading to a significant increase in cases.
BBC reports The Deputy Director of Public Health of the Northern Ireland Public Health Service said the variant did not cause more serious illness or reduce the effectiveness of the vaccine while evidence was still available.

The new Covid-19 strain is a variant of the existing Delta variant.
Variants have been detected in at least 42 countries.
According to the BBC, “Dr. Brid Farrell said the identification of cases of variants here is unavoidable at some point, especially as society is open and most restrictions are lifted.”
