Lake Charles, Louisiana (KPLC)-The flu season is officially here.
The Louisiana Department of Health held a free community influenza vaccination clinic on Friday to encourage the general public to gain immunity to the virus.
Early in the season, there is a lot of speculation about this year’s virus and what it looks like.
“I’m taking both. Boosters and flu shots,” said Lee Bob.
Several residents of the Lake Area visited the Kalkashu Parish Health Unit to be vaccinated against influenza each year.
For Lee Bob, he has been vaccinated against the flu for over 25 years and is not stopped now.
“It’s a tradition for me. I’ve been doing this for a long time and it’s been pretty successful. I think I’ve had the flu once, so I thought it was like a safety valve. I accept it and expect the best, “Bob said.
According to Region 5 Medical Director Dr. Lacy Kabanau, the flu season wasn’t very common last year, but that doesn’t mean we’re clear.

For Tenita Bertlane, getting the flu is not a chance she is willing to take.
