Severe COVID-19 during pregnancy is almost exclusively restricted to unvaccinated females – when to change policy
There seems to be little incentive to change this among regulators and pharmaceutical companies. Exacerbated by their exclusion, there is considerable vaccine hesitation among pregnant women.
Such hesitation continues, despite the increasing adverse consequences of SARS-CoV-2 infection among pregnant and postnatal women in many countries.
These have been improved in most other groups. The effects of the Omicron variant are still unknown.
We have identified three factors that influence the acceptance of vaccines for parents or their children. Confidence in vaccine efficacy, confidence in medical professionals, and, importantly, the certainty of a system for assessing vaccine safety.They say dealing with vaccine hesitation is a “complex problem”. Several European countries (Norway, UK) have recently recognized pregnant and postpartum women as a “risk” priority group for COVID vaccination. This policy has long been in place in other countries (Belgium, Denmark), but it is still not universal (for example, in Italy, the Netherlands and Finland, pregnant women are not prioritized).
We were able to combine surveillance data from six countries. This indicates that among the most severely ill pregnant and postpartum females, few have been vaccinated (table 1). This is observed despite the large differences in the intake of artificial vaccines.

Our findings give the message that vaccination of unvaccinated pregnant women, their partners, medical professionals, decision makers and politicians who care for pregnant women protects them from serious illness. I’m emphasizing. To provide protection against severe COVID-19, especially in vulnerable groups such as pregnant and pregnant, as the world is entering a new phase of the COVID pandemic and the delta variant is rapidly overtaken by the omicron variant.
